UNIT 32 - Section b) FORMAT OF A FILM POSTER - MAIN / TEASER / CHARACTER

LO1 b) FORMAT

Section b) MAIN POSTER FORMAT:

Main posters that feature later in the marketing campaign will be more explicit, revealing more details about the film's plot.

Conventionally, a main poster will include a main image from the film possibly with the key characters. Release date, tag line, star names and a text box containing main cast and crew will feature.

Section b) TEASER POSTER FORMAT:

A teaser poster is an early promotional film poster, containing a basic image or design without revealing too much information such as the plot, theme, and characters.

The purpose is to incite awareness and generate hype for the film. A tagline may be included. There are some instances when teaser posters are issued long in advance before the film goes into production.

Teaser posters will often be mysterious or intriguing, intended to entice your curiosity and interest without revealing too much of the film's plot.

Notable styles for teaser poster include:
- bearing only a symbol associated with the film, or simply just the title.
- a main character, looking away from the screen but looking at something in the distance.

Section b)
CHARACTER POSTER FORMAT:

For a film with key cast there may be a set of character posters, each featuring an individual character from the film.

Usually it contains the name of the actor or the name of the character played. It may also include a tagline that reflects something about the character.
